Fuel is an ambitious game that tries to do a lot, but it doesn't deliver where it counts. There's a lot to like in this postapocalyptic, open-world driving game. Some of the races are cool and clever, there are a mind-boggling number of different courses and dozens upon dozens of different vehicles to drive, and the atmospheric environmental effects make for some fun moments. Yet by focusing on the bigger picture, developer Asobo Studios didn't nail down some of the basics that make for fun driving.

The engine it does use, however - one of Asobo's own creation - is certainly no slouch, and that's just as well in a game that promises the sort of open-world racing sandbox we haven't seen since Test Drive Unlimited, with a range of vehicles that echoes MotorStorm, and environmental factors more consistent with the cinematic output of Roland Emmerich. This is an all-terrain racer, an astonishing 5000 square miles of North American wasteland crisscrossed by winding mountain roads, rivers, hills and more categories of bracken and brush than you'd find in the Eden Project.

The atmospheric weather effects make some races particularly enjoyable.

The racing doesn't feel as thrilling as it should, the artificial intelligence is fundamentally flawed, and the enormous world gives you precious little to do in it. There's a great game struggling to emerge here, but Fuel's strengths are too often overshadowed by its shortcomings.

Speaking to friends about Asobo Studios' FUEL, it's jarring how many are expecting an open-world follow-up to the last Race Driver. The name - perhaps introduced following Codemasters' acquisition of the publishing rights last year - is no doubt designed to bring it into line with GRID, and on that basis it's perhaps a mark of the publisher's confidence, and augers well for something new and interesting. But in truth, FUEL is no more an extension of Codemasters' excellent track racer than Overlord II is, and it doesn't even use the EGO Engine.

The laws of physics don't always apply to your computer-controlled opponents.

That peculiarity, however, is second only to the game's decision to let you forgo the open world entirely and select races and challenges from menus, unlocking new areas of the map, with their own new tasks, through progress rather than exploration, which is for all intents and purposes rendered superficial. You can exit the menus to the wasteland, and rumble across it in your choice of unlocked car, uncovering new races, vista spots (with arresting, 40km sight-lines), barrels of fuel and other secrets, but it's a strange halfway house, some way short of the audacity of either Test Drive Unlimited or, in particular, last year's Burnout Paradise.

Just because it says 75 mph doesn't mean it feels like 75 mph.

Story of Delta Force Black Hawk Down

The game is based on the 1992-93 UN peace missions in war-torn Somalia. The first few missions in the game are designed to make the player accustomed with the different types of weapons, their usage, enemy AI, terrain types and combat techniques. The majority of the missions involve convoy protection, providing security for food distributions, destroying weapon stockpiles, taking prisoners, etc. The game ultimately takes the player all the way through to the Battle of Mogadishu,which is the centerpiece of the game. As the player progesses the missions become more difficult. Humvees, MH-60 Black Hawks, and MH-6 Little Bird helicopters play very important roles in the game. There are also a few missions where locally-made motorboats and trucks are used. On several occasions, the player is dropped in the field by helicopter. Mission design within the game is geared towards realism and the game is mostly played alongside three AI-controlled soldiers.

One characteristic of the game is that while on a humvee or helicopter the player will have to think, aim and shoot extremely fast to protect himself and the convoy. However, on foot the player must approach extremely slowly, with patience and taking cover when necessary. The player will have to act according to the command of the operative. The AI of the accompanying soldiers react well when fighting attacks from the enemies but they can't follow the player's instructions and the player will always have to take the lead and show them the way in the missions, a player may use a voice enabled microphone to command soldiers. As the game proceeds the fellow soldiers becomes more dependent on the player and in several times the player will have to protect them from opponent assaults. There is no way to command them directly, which is problematic. However, throughout the game the accompanying soldiers provide assistance or take the lead in certain critical situations to aid the player.

The most dangerous in-game enemy assault comes with the rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) which the enemy patrols may fire on helicopters, Humvees, and soldiers. In several missions, the most important duty of the player is to protect his convoy and team from oncoming assaults from the enemies armed with RPGs.

The Windows and PlayStation 2 versions of the game have an expansion set called Team Sabre, which features two additional campaigns. One involves missions to shut down a drug cartel in Colombia, and the other involves missions against a paramilitary rebel group in Iran.

EA has released a free patch for Need for Speed Undercover that adds the Challenge series to the game. PC Games Hardware offers a local download.

The Challenge series for Need for Speed Undercover contains 60 events that are split up between the two new game modes and offer the possibility to unlock three new cars: the Battle Machine Mazda RC-7 (after 30 events), the Speed Machine Porsche 911 GT2 (60 events) and the Dominator Corvette Z06 (31 events have to be dominated).

In the Highway Wars mode the players are racing three opponents at high speed. The second mode is a checkpoint race and you have to pass the track sections before time is up. When unlocked, the three new cars can be used in the career and the online mode.

You can download the Need for Speed Challenge Pack for the PC from the official NfS website. PC games Hardware users can also use the local download to get the patch for the French, Italian and German version of the game.

The gm opens to eight men eating breakfast at a diner: Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen), Mr. Blue (Eddie Bunker), Mr. Brown (Quentin Tarantino), Mr. Orange (Tim Roth), Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi), Mr. White (Harvey Keitel), Joe Cabot (Lawrence Tierney), and his son, "Nice Guy" Eddie (Chris Penn). Mr. Brown discusses his comparative analysis on Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and Mr. Pink explains his anti-tipping policy until Joe forces him to leave a tip.

After the credits, the action cuts quickly to the interior of a speeding car. Mr. White, driving with one hand, is trying to comfort a hysterical Mr. Orange, who has been shot in the abdomen and is bleeding profusely. They arrive at an abandoned warehouse, later revealed to be the rendezvous point for the armed robbery they have just committed. Mr. White leaves Mr. Orange on the warehouse floor. Mr. Pink appears and angrily suggests that the jewelry heist was a setup. Mr. Brown has been killed by the police and the whereabouts of Mr. Blonde and Mr. Blue are unknown to Mr. White and Mr. Pink.

Mr. White and Mr. Pink are enraged at Mr. Blonde, who shot and killed several civilians after the alarm went off. They argue about whether or not to take the unconscious Mr. Orange to a hospital. The argument turns violent when Mr. White reveals that he told Mr. Orange his real first name. They point their loaded pistols at each other. At that point, Mr. Blonde, who has been watching the action from the shadows, steps forward and tells them not to leave the warehouse because Nice Guy Eddie is on his way there. Mr. Blonde takes them outside to his car and opens the trunk to reveal Marvin Nash (Kirk Baltz), a police officer he has captured.

Mr. Pink and Mr. White brutalize the officer, then Mr. Blonde tapes him to a chair. Eddie arrives at the warehouse and orders Mr. Pink and Mr. White to come with him to retrieve the stolen diamonds (that Mr. Pink stashed after fleeing the scene) and get rid of the hijacked vehicles, while ordering Mr. Blonde to stay with the dying Mr. Orange and the "cop". The officer denies knowing anything about the setup, and begs to be released. Mr. Blonde then draws a straight razor from his cowboy boot and tunes a radio to K-Billy's "Super Sounds of the '70s", which is playing "Stuck in the Middle With You" by Stealers Wheel. Dancing around to the music, Mr. Blonde slashes the officer's face and cuts off his ear. He then splashes the officer with gasoline

and prepares to ignite it with his cigarette lighter when Mr. Orange suddenly shoots Mr. Blonde several times in the chest, killing him. Mr. Orange tells Marvin that he is actually an undercover police detective named Freddy Newandyke, and reassures him that a large police force is in position a few blocks down the road waiting for Joe Cabot to arrive.

Mr. Orange's scenes reveals how he went undercover, his mission being to catch Cabot. Joe prepares the robbery and lays out the heist plan, including the code names for the men. The story then jumps to Mr. White, Mr. Orange and Mr. Brown minutes after the robbery; Mr. Brown has been shot in the head and crashes their getaway car because he has blood in his eyes. After Mr. White kills two pursuing cops, he and Mr. Orange see that Mr. Brown has died from his injury. They hijack a car but the female driver shoots Mr. Orange in the abdomen before Mr. Orange shoots her back and kills her. The game replays a part of the car scene from the start of the game before the view jumps back to present time at the warehouse.

The remainder of the heist group return to the warehouse to find a dead Mr. Blonde. Mr. Orange claims that Mr. Blonde was going to kill the officer, Mr. Orange and the rest of the gang so that he could take the diamonds for himself. Eddie doesn't believe the story and, furious with Mr. Orange, shoots Marvin dead. Joe walks in and tells everyone that Mr. Blue was killed, and confidently accuses Mr. Orange of being an informant, forcing Mr. White to defend Mr. Orange. Joe points a gun at Mr. Orange as Mr. White points his gun at Joe. Eddie then points his gun at Mr. White, posing a Mexican standoff. After a brief attempt at reasoning with each other, Joe shoots Mr. Orange and is then shot dead by Mr. White; Eddie shoots Mr. White, who shoots and kills Eddie. Mr. Pink, who stayed out of the shootout, takes the diamonds and flees. There is some ambiguity as to his fate; faint sound effects of a car trying to start, police sirens and gunshots suggests he was either captured or killed by the police. Mr. White cradles Mr. Orange in his arms and Mr. Orange reveals that he is in fact a cop, devastating his friend. Mr. White puts his gun to Mr. Orange's head just as the police enter. The camera pans away from the gun and just shows Mr. White as police attempt to negotiate with him. Gunshots are then heard, and the game ends with an abrupt cut to black.

Story of Residential Evil

The original game opens on the evening of July 24, 1998 in the fictional Raccoon City, a Midwestern town, where a number of grisly murders have taken place on the outskirts of town. Victims were attacked in their homes, and apparently eaten, by a group of assailants. Local law enforcement sends in the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (STARS) Bravo team. After contact is lost, Alpha team is sent to find Bravo team and continue the investigation. Alpha team locates Bravo team's helicopter, but there is no sign of survivors; only a severed hand is found. While searching the area for further clues, Alpha team is attacked by ferocious dogs, one of which kills one of the team's members, Joseph Frost. Alpha's helicopter pilot, Brad Vickers, takes off and abandons the team. Pursued by the dogs who killed their colleague, Alpha team is forced to seek refuge within a nearby mansion, believed to be abandoned.

With the dogs roaming outside, the four remaining Alpha team members (Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield, Barry Burton and Jill Valentine) are trapped within. A gun shot rings out, and the player character moves to investigate. At this point, the player takes control of the character and begins to explore the mansion. One of the first discoveries is a member of Bravo team, Kenneth J. Sullivan, being eaten by a zombie. The character eventually finds the mansion to be riddled with puzzles, traps, and horrors. Scattered documents and files suggest that a series of illegal experiments were being undertaken on the property by a clandestine research team, under the authority and supervision of the Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical conglomerate. The creatures roaming the mansion and surrounding region are the results of these experiments, which have exposed the mansion's personnel and various animals and insects to a highly contagious and mutagenic biological agent known as the T-Virus (hence the Japanese title, Biohazard).

After navigating a series of tunnels, passageways and buildings, the player discovers a secret underground laboratory containing the Umbrella Corporation's experiments. In the lab, Wesker reveals that he is a double agent working for Umbrella and releases the Tyrant T-002, a giant humanoid monster created through prolonged exposure to the T-Virus. Upon release, the Tyrant turns toward Wesker and impales him. The player then apparently kills the Tyrant and a self-destruct system is triggered. After the player calls for a rescue helicopter, the Tyrant bursts through the roof of the lab onto the helicopter pad and attacks. Vickers drops a rocket launche and the player uses it to kill the Tyrant. The player escapes in the helicopter and the game ends as the mansion explodes.

The ending varies depending on choices made by the player. The ending plays out as described above in Chris and Jill's endings if the player saves only one or neither of their teammates.
